VOCAL ADVENTURES

Elementary Vocal Music Program,

3rd - 5th grades

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Everyone can learn to sing!  That’s right. In all my years of teaching I have never met anyone who couldn’t learn to sing better than they did when they started. “Tone-deaf” is a word we use when we are describing someone who has difficulty hitting the right notes.  But to be truly “tone-deaf” is a very rare thing, indeed. If you can talk, you can sing!  Life is so much more fun when you can sing your way through it! Come on! It’s fun! Everyone should know how to sing at least a little bit! We’ll have such fun working together and making Beautiful Music.

The VOCAL ADVENTURES SERIES is a sequence of choir/singing classes filled with fun and adventure. We'll explore many different themes and styles of music, each one fun and unique. There are three very different class variations, a different one for each trimester.  Each one will focus on a different musical style and will present different musical challenges and skills to learn and master. Earn stickers and participate in team and individual challenges. When possible, our choir will sing at school assemblies and other places and events around Redding.

1st TRIMESTER:

READY, SET, SING! Frogs, Dogs, Trains and Planes are just some of the ridiculously fun things we’ll be singing about in this choir class. Songs like “The Bull Frog”, “Someone's In the Kitchen”, “Shooting Star” and “I Can Can” are just a few of the tunes we’ll sing together. We’ll also learn how to sing better, louder, stronger and longer. If singing is your thing, then this class is a must for you!

2nd TRIMESTER:

JUNIOR JAZZ!

Vocal Adventures 1C -  Jazz is Cool. Jazz is Fun. Jazz is Funky. Jazz is Fine.  Jazz is unlike anything you’ve ever sung before!  Songs like “Flip, Flop, Fly”, “Razzamatazz”, “Everybody Wants To Be A Cat”, and “Tain’t What ‘Cha Do” are just a few of the kid-friendly jazz numbers this class will learn to sing.  Do you know how to Scat?  Do you know Bebop and Boogie Woogie? Come and learn to sing this super fun singing style.

3rd TRIMESTER:

DISNEY DAZZLE!

Everyone loves the music of Disney and so do we! Come and sing the best and most fun Disney songs, ever!  How about “Be Our Guest”, “The Bare Necessities”, “I Wanna Be Like You”, “A Spoonful of Sugar”, “Step In Time”, “Under the Sea”, “A Whole New World” and MORE!  If you love to sing and you love Disney, you’re going to love this class!

MUSIC EXPLOSION

Middle School Vocal Music Program,

Trimesters 1 & 2

6th - 8th grades

Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday

Theatre Choir for Advanced Singers

MUSICAL THEATRE CHOIR

Trimesters 1 and 2 will be devoted to learning the music for the Spring Musical.  Students must audition for placement in this choir and will be required to stay in the class for both trimesters. There will be additional rehearsals required after school and some Saturdays.  This choir is for singers who love musical theatre and desire a deeper understanding of vocal technique required for theatre and production. Many of these students will also be cast in speaking and non-speaking rolls in the production.  All students will appear on stage as well as participating as choral backup in the offstage choral pit.

Thursday & Friday

Theatre Choir for Actors and Dancers

Actors and Dancers have to know what to sing and how to sing it, especially when cast in a musical production.  This class will work exclusively with the Dancers and Actors who are cast in the Spring musical. They will learn not only the basics of the notes and rhythm, but also how to give expression and meaning to each song as it relates to the musical style and theme.

THE SINGING DANCER - Songs from the Spring Musical. This class will be offered 1st trimester only.  The Dancers will learn all of the songs that accompany their dances in the musical, emphasizing good breath support, diction, facial expression and stage presence.

THE SINGING ACTOR – Songs from the Spring Musical. This class will be offered 2nd  trimester only.  The Actors and Soloists will learn all of the songs in the musical, emphasizing good breath support, diction, facial expression and stage presence. Individual solo coaching will also be given to each actor that has a solo.

Advanced Performance

And High School Prep Choir

SHOWCASE SINGERS  This 3rd Trimester vocal group was created to give an opportunity for intermediate and advanced singers to participate in a Auditioned Performance Choir. Participation will help prepare middle school singers for the transition into a High School performance choir and vocal music program.  Standard choral singing techniques will be emphasized along with learning advanced performance and sight reading skills.  One of the main focuses will be PROJECT HOLLYWOOD along with possible guest appearances and entertainment opportunities at other local Redding Events such as Kool April Nites, Kids Unlimited’s Jivin’ Drive-In and a Redding Middle School Invitational (RMSI) with Sequoia, Parsons and other local Jr. High schools.
